Teachers Without Borders: www.teacherswithoutborders.org

"Teachers Without Borders" supports teachers, primarily in developing countries, with high-tech; high-touch; high-teach solutions. Their Certificate of Teaching Mastery (CTM) program, was developed by the "Teachers Without Borders" members (drawn from 84 countries). The Certificate of Teaching Mastery curriculum includes professional development topics in: (a) contemporary issues in education (2) curriculum creation (3) pedagogical techniques (4) multiculturalism and global connections, and (5) special topics including: girls education, early childhood education, arts education, environmental education, conflict mediation, and disabilities.

Prospective Teacher Participants: "Teachers Without Borders" currently seeks teachers interested in participating -- at a vastly-reduced price of approximately $40 (U.S.). Certificate of Teaching Mastery program participants use computers connected to the Internet from their school or home. Individual teachers who need financial support to enroll in a Certificate of Teaching Mastery program can ask for a sponsorship.

Prospective Sponsors: "Teachers Without Borders" is developing a means for sponsors who provide charitable donations (of funds or in-kind gifts), to track how their funds are being used (akin to tracking a package with Fedex or UPS). Teachers who receive support may soon be able to respond to the sponsor about their progress, thus ensuring that the donor is satisfied that a helpful and focused development is taking place.

Courage to Teach and the Center for Teacher Formation: www.teacherformation.org

Under the guidance of Parker J. Palmer, author of The Courage to Teach, the Fetzer Institute created the Courage to Teach program (CTT), piloting an approach to professional development called "teacher formation." This approach is rooted in the belief that good teaching flows from the identity and integrity of the teacher. The formation process invites educators to reclaim their own wholeness and vocational clarity, and makes connections between the renewal of a teacher's spirit and the revitalization of public education. The Center for Teacher Formation, an educational nonprofit organization, was established to develop, deepen, and expand the work of teacher formation and Courage to Teach nationally.
