Integrity In... Information for Teachers

Thanks for seeking more information about Integrity In... projects. Suggestions for "Activities For Teachers" are identified below. First some explanations about our work in this area.

Why We Do It.

We three (Craig, Bruce and Joe) have developed "Integrity In..." to collect and distribute people's stories of personal, positive experiences with integrity as one way to combat the seemingly omnipresent news about scandal, violence, and mistrust in our world. In a nutshell, we do it:

  1. to broaden recognition of the diverse nature of every-day acts of integrity,
  2. to strengthen an appreciation for the personal and organizational benefits from noticing integrity,
  3. to add a positive, uplifting tone to local, national and international conversations,
  4. to inspire a spirit of doing what is right in a given situation, and
  5. to refresh faith in the goodness of people and organizations.

Why A "Story" Approach?

Important events and experiences of all kinds stick in our mind, sometimes for the rest of our life. When those events are acts of integrity, they become part of the mosaic of the remembered experiences (stories) of our life. Those remembered stories can be what we draw on to understand how life can be lived at its best.

What is Integrity?

Integrity In...projects are all designed to heighten awareness of positive integrity by self and others in daily life. Integrity will be defined by the experience stories told, but in a nutshell, integrity involves "Doing what is right". Projects will likely reveal that there may be some integrity universals but there are also aspects of integrity that are country, culture, context and situation specific.

Classroom Fundamentals

The interactive nature of all Integrity In... projects will allow teachers to emphasize fundamentals of writing, clarity of thinking, "case analysis", perceiving diversity, and the critical importance of discussions and feedback.

Logic of Experience-Sharing About Integrity

One of the most powerful ways to enhance positive integrity is to talk about integrity experiences with others. The more Integrity-project classes talk together about specific experiences with integrity, the more likely will the spirit of integrity continue to grow. The logic goes like this: The more you talk about good integrity, the more you think about it; The more you think about it, the more you "see" it around you; The more you "see" it where you live, attend school, play and work, the more you act with integrity yourself; The more you consciously act with integrity yourself, the more you talk about it...

Role of Integrity In...website and email list

The Integrity In... website and email lists allow public presentation of classroom work. Student contributions thus have the potential to foster discussions of integrity worldwide and nourish hope and "doing what is right" everywhere.

Activities For Teachers

Integrity In... Organizations Awards
As a way to emphasize the positive aspects of integrity that exist all around us, Integrity In... asks for your nominations of organizations you and your students know about. We will post organizational names and your nomination comments for world-wide reading.

Integrity In... Challenge
The Integrity In... Challenge presents a dilemma about some aspect of contemporary life (e.g. Bullying), one that could have multiple "correct solutions". We encourage you and your students to let us know how you would respond to the current dilemma (anonymously if you like). We will post responses online for your class and others to review and discuss.

Coming Soon...

We soon intend to offer Integrity projects that focus on individuals, class collaborations, Grandparents, and more.
